About Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a safe and holistic system of medicine which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment and not just the symptoms. The remedy seems to act as a powerful catalyst which stimulates the body to regain balance and restore health.

People are becoming increasingly disillusioned with conventional medicine and questioning the quality of their health care. They are searching for more natural ways to improve their health and are choosing homeopathy as a gentle alternative or complementary treatment. In homeopathy, they find a treatment that looks at each person as a unique individual and works with the body and its ability to keep a person in optimal health. Homeopathy takes into account the rare and peculiar symptoms that can be difficult to diagnose but which are very real to the sufferer.  Homeopathy is a natural system of healing discovered in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, a physician who was disillusioned with the techniques employed by the doctors of his time. It employs the principle of ‘Like Cures Like’, also known as the Law of Similars. The word homeopathy is derived from the Greek words meaning ‘similar suffering.’

“I can’t manage without homeopathy. In fact, I never go anywhere without homeopathic remedies. I often make use of them.” Sir Paul McCartney

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of hands-on healing using universal life energy channelled through the practitioner to the recipient helping to harmonise body, mind and spirit.

How does Reiki heal?

It is believed that one is more vulnerable to stress and illness when reserves of life energy are low. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy.

Is homeopathy safe?

Homeopathy is very safe, gentle and non-addictive. It can be prescribed for babies and pregnant women without any danger of side-effects. The remedies are prepared so that only tiny doses are used. This means that any toxic effects are lost but beneficial properties are kept. All remedies are tested on healthy, human volunteers so that all beneficial properties can be documented and in this way we know what symptoms they can benefit. Occasionally the medicines can cause symptoms to worsen for a short period of time as the body seeks to 'kick out' the dis-ease with greater vitality. This is what homeopaths call an aggravation. In practice, careful selection of the remedy and potency (strength) usually ensures that this is very mild. Most people do not notice this effect.

What kinds of conditions can homeopathy treat?

Homeopathy is effective in a wide range of complaints. Hormonal, digestive, skin, respiratory, urinary, menstrual, musculoskeletal, reproductive, circulatory, emotional and immune problems - including infections and allergies – are all within its scope.

What are homeopathic remedies made with?

The remedies are made from naturally occurring substances from the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms and have been tried and tested in practice for over 200 years. Homeopathic remedies are usually prepared through a process of diluting with pure water or alcohol and succussing such that the more diluted a substance gets, the more potent it becomes (Law of the Infinitesimal Dose). Remedies are then usually administered in liquid, tablet or powder form.

Do conventional medicines have to be stopped before homeopathic treatment can begin?

No. However, as homeopathic treatment progresses it clearly makes sense to review your drug regimen in conjunction with your conventional medical practitioner. Some drugs can be safely stopped relatively easily, and it is the aim of homeopathic treatment to ultimately reduce dependence as much as possible on all medication.

What happens during a homeopathic consultation?

You will be asked for a complete medical history and all the issues physical, emotional and social which you and your practitioner feel are relevant to your state of health. A full consultation will last around one hour. The purpose of such a comprehensive approach is in order to find the medicine which benefits you as a whole person as well as your particular illness or illnesses.

Why choose homeopathy?

Homoeopathic remedies are completely safe, they are non toxic and they have no harmful side effects. People are searching for more natural ways to improve their health and are choosing homeopathy as a safe alternative or as a complementary treatment with other therapies. In homeopathy they find a system of medicine that looks at each person as being unique and a system that shows respect for the body's innate intelligence and ability to keep the person in optimum health.

Energy levels and outlook to life should be significantly better after homeopathic treatment from a professional homeopath. People return for treatment because they feel an improvement in their general health, as well as a particular health complaint.
